Obado

We are OBADO. Creating Daily Opportunities For Older Black Africans in the Community.

OBADO runs a social club at Trinity Church Hall in Moston from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm every Tuesday and Thursday providing day time companionship and therapeutic activities tailored to older black Africans’ needs, enabling them to meet, socialise and so reduce loneliness and isolation which has been identified as a significant need within this community.

The venue is user-friendly with cooking and toilet facilities with disabled access and insurance is in place. Activities include handicraft (card making, weaving, knitting, crocheting, and sewing) to exercise fingers and hand coordination; memory training and simple exercise classes to promote mental and physical health and well-being, listening to uplifting music from diverse cultures, dance and exercises, cooking different dishes from diverse cultures as represented/requested by participants, sharing cooking skills maintaining roots and cultures through food. We also encourage older people to bring and share food and presents on special occasions to promote love and unity in our community. We conduct home visits for assessments.
